I'm thinking of either going Breton for a magic based playthrough or going Redguard for a melee based playthrough. Playing on PC and I'm open to any mods as well but starting out as vanilla for now.
world scales with your level so there really isn't a better just a more fun...
Minimal, yet feature rich.

Magic has way more flexibility since you can create spells.

Magic is significantly better. The upward limits on the power of magic are galaxies higher than melee.
Neither, Imperial Battlemage.

What kind of build would that be?

Damn the class building/leveling in this game is ridiculous. I gotta choose skills I dont use to be major skills? So counterintuitive. Having so much trouble creating a character here.

Yep. I find Oblivion to be more or less unplayable without mods.

I always used melee in that game. Had more fun that way.

The magic is pretty diverse and incredibly satisfying fwiw

but I absolutely loved the way all the weapons looked like with the sun hitting it.. the silver and glass stuff especially looked pretty cool - it's fun to smash guards with an enchanted hammer and see them bend over and ragdoll like those inflatable dudes lol

Khajit archer is my preferred

Yeah the whole system was poorly designed, you're better off following a guide tbh
Yeah, Oblivion is the worst of Morrowind and Skyrim. Oblivion has a couple fun questlines, but Skyrim actually rewards you for playing your wizard like a wizard, and Morrowind has the really detailed, hand crafted open world. I played a thousand hours of Oblivion in high school and loved every minute of it, but it just does not hold up.
