All insects have wings, it's one of their defining featuresnot all
not allI guess theres... fleas?
not allVery few do not, and of those their ancestors did.
All insects have wings, it's one of their defining featuresWhat about the ones that don't
Ants have wings... WHY!?the regular worker ones don't but lots of other ones do
What about the ones that don't
Ants have wings... WHY!?
They fly now.They fly now.
Only the breeders have wings and they shed them after mating. It's the only way for an ant queen to actually get anywhere to form a new colony without shitting on other ant territories. So breeder ants fly the queen around?
Hair is a defining feature of mammals, but not all mammals have hair
Very few do not
Many groups of insects do not have wingshttps://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wingless_insect
So breeder ants fly the queen around? No the queen is a breeder herself. Or at least was a breeder before becoming a queen.
No the queen is a breeder herself. Or at least was a breeder before becoming a queen. So female ants are breeder ants? I thought there was only one female ant in a colony and that was the queen?
What do centipedes count as then? They don't have wings wright <_<
I'm confident they don't otherwise they wouldn't need all those legs, theres also no way wings would carry around their fat asses
What do centipedes count as then?centipedes aren't insects, i guess they'd be called chilopods
centipedes aren't insects, i guess they'd be called chilopodsI myself have been known as a chill-opod
so whats the overarching term for bugs and insects and whatever the other kinds are then?Arthropods should cover any "creepy crawly buzzy flying" thing including spiders.
So female ants are breeder ants? I thought there was only one female ant in a colony and that was the queen?
There's lots of female ants but most never go on to mate and are functionally sterile.Whys that? Wouldn't it make more sense to you know have them do the do and get more ant babies?
sea scorpionsI'm sorry WHAT
I'm sorry WHAThttps://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jaekelopterus
Whys that? Wouldn't it make more sense to you know have them do the do and get more ant babies?
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/JaekelopterusThe restoration picture they posted makes them look "not that bad" but then I remembered they're 8 feet long and live in the ocean and probably don't look as friendly if they existed.
8 feet long, lol
The short answer is the reproduction strategy of ants does not work if every female ant can lay eggs so only a few females become breeders. When they reach sexual maturity, they fly away, find mate, shed their wings and start a new colony as a queen. So kinda like lions then. The male cubs get kicked out and they find their own pride to take over.
Ants have wings... WHY!?Did you not see A Bug's Life?
