I've been debating buying it for awhile, but I don't wanna spend 20 bucks on a game that I'm not gonna end up finishing. If I didn't like Super Meat Boy would I hate this too?
I'm far from high end, I just know what suits me.
A sides are easier than light world, B sides are harder than dark world. C sides are even harder but only a few screens so take much less time to beat than B sides.

Getting all the gold strawberries is the fucking hardest shit I've ever seen in a platformer.

Like a 6 or 7. Nowhere near as hard as Super Meat Boy imo.

Theres several screens that a 9/10 or maybe a 10

But theres a checkpoint at every screen so its very fair

Not recommended if you did not like SMB.

I think Celeste is more challenging.

I actually tried the chapter 9 dlc after beating all A and B sides from chapters 1-8.

I had to quit the dlc after probably 1/2 way through. Fuck the wave jump thing.
The controls aren't slippery like SMB are they? I like challenging platformers but that was the reason I couldn't get into it.

Celeste requires more talent, IMO.

You should prob watch a video if you're still unsure.
No they're not slippery. Also Celeste is on sale quite often so you can wait a little and probably get it half off, if not more. Whatre you playing it on?

It's not slippery, the controls are really tight. I didn't think it was too hard, but the DLC chapter can get absurd. That was when I stopped.

PS4. I've been waiting for months and it's never discounted there for some reason. I saw it was like 5 bucks on Switch a few weeks back.

Steam summer sale allegedly starts on the 25th. It'll likely be marked down at least 50%.

Edit: just saw PS4. Nevermind.

I suggest watching a video tutorial of advanced speed running techniques. You'll see the game controls are incredibly tight and consistent and have really good code behind them.

If you're not sure on it I would wait on a sale. Its bound to be on one for PS4 eventually. The game is great though if you like challenging platformers. It's incredibly fair and rewarding.

Celeste was in the $5 1300+ BLM profit bundle.......

Chapter 9 is fucked

Took me 3600 deaths over 10 1/2 hours

I havent played through it but IIRC they give you options to adjust the difficulty in different ways

I don't think it was that much harder than some of the more difficult C sides, or 7B. it was just really long

anyways TC I would say it's not super hard and you should give it a shot. That said I have played a lot of platformers so maybe not the best reference point. What it does have going for it in terms of more beginner platformer players, though:

1) Very gradual difficulty curve, it starts out quite simple and eases you in
2) Frequent checkpoints so you don't lose a ton of progress on death (and no sort of game over / life count mechanics)
3) Many of the harder sections are for optional pickups so you can skip them if they're too tough
4) A generally very positive story/atmosphere about overcoming your limitations that fits pretty well into the attitiude of anyone struggling to beat it

I have a few friends who played it as basically their first platformer ever and while I won't pretend they had an easy time or anything, they all enjoyed it and were able to clear it. It's the sort of game that really teaches you everything you need to know to do well at it and then makes you feel like some crazy pro when it all comes together for you and you clear some hard screen you were stuck on

oh yeah they have some assist mode features too, ranging from the rather extreme (infinite airdashes) to small little helpful things (slowing the game down slightly to make timing windows easier). You can turn any of them on or off at any time too, it's really nice
THIS IS WHAT I HATE A BOUT EVREY WEBSITE!! THERES SO MUCH PEOPLE READING AND POSTING STUIPED STUFF
Only doing the A sides up until the final level, I never felt particularly frustrated. I lost interest on the final level due to it using moronic bouncy physics. The couple B sides I tried were definitely more challenging. I could see the ones in the final levels being pretty tough.
8-B is basically the hardest the game ever gets.

Thanks for the responses. I looked up a few videos of it and it does like the type of fast paced precision platforming that I like. Glad to know that you don't slide around all over the place, too.

I'll probably hold off a few more weeks to try to see if it finally gets a sale. That'll give me a little time to cull some of this backlog that I've got.
