I have one, but it's the earliest model, I think.same. plus the kindle phone app even has dark mode which is perfect for reading at night before bed
but there's the Amazon Kindle app you can use on your phone/tablet, and it's free.
that's how I've been reading.
To people who say you can read on your phone, yes that's true, but having a nice dedicated bigger screen to just read on makes such a big difference in my eyes . Not to mention the lighting on the kindle is...gentler?I was thinking about getting a Kindle because of this exactly.
I was thinking about getting a Kindle because of this exactly. The bigger screen helps for sure, and you can make the letters bigger much more easily compared to a smaller screen.
For the past week, I've been reading on the kindle App maybe four hours a day with five minute breaks every half hour and an appropriate brightness setting and I'm still experiencing bad eye strain. My vision is blurring and I'm having a hard time adjusting to even minor lighting changes.
I have the 2019 Paperwhite and it's awesome. Heads up, it's a lot smaller than it seems in pictures though. My paperwhite's screen size is the size of a standard paper back. It's about right.
Wife has a paperwhite and I just asked her if she needed and upgrade and she just said "Why?"Paperwhites are great. And since the technology isnt really advancing theres not a lot of point to upgrade
She uses it daily, and has had it for a couple years if that helps.
Is the Paperwhite version worth it over the standard? I think I've decided that the Oasis is too expensive for what it offers, but can't choose between the other two.Idk they both have a backlight and the same resolution so there isnt a difference in terms of usability.
The backlight alone is worth itYeah, the baseline now has a backlight. I'm guessing that kinda makes the Paperwhite version not as good as an upgrade? Other than the resolution boost from 167 to 500 ppi
wait, the baseline edition has a backlight now as well?
I have an oasis, I use it quite often and quite enjoy it. Having said that I'm not sure it was really worth the bigger over a paperwhite. I'd certainly recommend a paperwhite over regular one though. It's not a massive difference, so if you really need to save money the regular will do, but I'd get the paperwhite if you can afford it.Are you referring to the current paperwhite and regular editions, where they both have backlights? Just asking because apparently the older versions of the regular didn't have a backlight, so wanted to be sure that was accounted for when recommending paperwhite over regular.

If you must get one, get the paperwhite, having a backlight makes such a big difference for night reading. I would say it's not waterproof but now it apparently is. There's not much reason to get the oasis unless you like the metal feeling and the warm light. That's not really worth it in my eyes.
Looks like the normal kindle does too. Up to you to decide if more resolute and being waterproof are worth what, 30 dollars more?
To people who say you can read on your phone, yes that's true, but having a nice dedicated bigger screen to just read on makes such a big difference in my eyes. Not to mention the lighting on the kindle is...gentler? I can read next to someone at night and they can tell I'm reading on my phone whereas with the kindle it's not as bothersome. Also you're not soaking up phone battery. The kindle battery is a beast, I can read a full book without having to bother recharging it, hitting about 20-40%. I'm talking about 1000 page books here. So that's a big plus. With backlight used, but the wireless turned off.
You can definitely get some cases that are great for the kindle too.
All of this. The backlight is definitely a must, anything else not worth the price IMO. Also kindle screen is nothing like your phone's screen. It is designed to mimic paper so it won't burn out your eyes with prolonged reads.
