That game is an insult to the biggest legend in this industry, Mario. Honestly, how dare they name their game Odyssey. Play a real Odyssey on the Switch instead of yearly shovelware crap.
It's grindy if you want to get max level. I have almost all content completed in main game and all DLC completed and am sitting under 200 hours

Was there any point just playing through the main quest where you felt you needed to stop and level grind? Or did you do well enough just through normal progression?

Yeah, the level gating is a little annoying. There are points in the main story where the next quest is several levels above you and you're forced to do side quests before continuing the main story.

That's what I'd heard about and what put me off from playing it. That and the open world being too damn big.
of course. don't listen to the people that will try to tell you "oh, just do every side quest and you'll be fine" because it's just all a bunch of grindy, padded out fluff and bullshit.

If you skip the side quests there are many islands you wont visit and many stories you wont experience. I sort of feel like the whole point in these new AC games is to experience the world and not just the main quest.Especially since the game is literally called Odyssey and is based on the source material of...well...The Odyssey lol

Show me an AC game that doesn't have collect-a-thon mechanics that's artificial padding.
A lot of the side quests are really good. There's just so many of them that inevitably you'll run into the stinkers as well.I really liked doing the hunts tbh. And just fucking shit up at sea

do the one near boetia. lokris maybe? its on the salt pits. the guy wants u to take away his shield and sword so he doesn't hurt his parents because of the prophecy from delphi he got. that's good one.
You can get tons of exp passively by using the bounty board thing too. You can accept quests for sinking x number of ships or killing x number of Spartans etc. , and just complete them as you play the game normally. They usually give out tons of exp and money.
