Simple workaround:Congrats. You have reinstituted the salt tax that caused a revolution in India.
No sales tax on foodstuff that is exactly one ingredient, or exactly one ingredient plus water.
Congrats. You have reinstituted the salt tax that caused a revolution in India.

Something Obama did right was make the capital gains tax more progressive. But that was stopped by the Trump tax cuts which is BS. And it could be a lot more progressive than it was during the Obama era. Taxing capital gains is a lot more fair than taxing income, because capital gains don't require any work and benefit people who are already rich more than anyone else.
Some of the takes in this topic are sad, and I wonder how much of it is trolling.
Sales tax is the best tax.
Punish consumption, not production.
The only reason so many people are against sales taxes is because they are poor and dont pay any income tax in the first place. But reality is reality...we should punish consumption. Always.
I'm cool with sales tax (even a value added tax) as long as it doesn't apply to necessities like non-prepared food, medicine, and clothing. Unfortunately a lot of states tax those things, especially clothing. (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sales_taxes_in_the_United_States#By_jurisdiction)
The obvious flaw here, is disagreement over exactly what "necessities" means.

Alternatively make the producer pay the sales tax.

So, if this were somehow liquidated, assuming it even can, and then redistributed to walmart employees, it would be a whopping $1.82 an hour.

That is almost 300 a month and 3500 a year.
except it wouldn't be 3500 a year, because they'd have no reason to keep the business open if it's making no money.

$70,000 per minute. That's more than a lot of peoples annual income.
From that amount alone they could double the income of everybody in the us under the poverty line and have INCOME left over.
they could liquidate their entire wealth and it would only be enough to give every walmart employee a $1.82/hr raise
and then they'd all lose their jobs because the business wouldn't be making any money
Um no
70k per minute GAINED
There is 1.5 million households in the poverty line which means Under 25k per year. Let's say their average income is 20k per year
70k/20k = 3.5 households could double their income per minute
There are 525600 minutes in a year. So if you doubled everybody at or below the poverty line, assuming +20k*1.5million you'd have enough left over for them still to be making 12.9k per minute
annual income

Good for them on maintaining their incomes on lock. lol at the haters in this thread. That's why you people will never get far in life: Too busy being envious while hating on complete strangers.

Lol. Defending what? Dependents who benefited from their fathers hard work of building his own company and continue to work to let it grow and benefit their decendents? Bitter people need to let it go ffs.
Sucking up to the new royalty won't get you into their ranks.
Yeah, fuck having a better society. Let the rich hoard wealth while millions live paycheck to paycheck. You don't care because you've got yours. Your worldview is naive and self-centered.
And Ive lived paycheck to paycheck. And Ive struggled raising my family. But in each instance I worked to try and better my situation than expend energy on caring about what the wealthy do with their wealth. And whether or not I am hypothetically entitled to it.
They don't live in a bubble. Their wealth hoarding affects everyone, including you. You claim not to care but you care enough to repeatedly defend this gross wealth hoarding.
Hmmmm ....
Oh I got one. You just want the rich to distribute the wealth they accumulated because you want a hand out so you can sit on your ass and cry on the internet instead of get a job.
Did I do it right? Yeah Im done here.
Fines should be income based too.

Pretty much. Instead of hating on the rich maybe they should aspire for that life. Only 1 in 10 rich people, tops, got there through inheritance or dumb lottery luck, the other 90% earned it the hard way. But it's like lecturing a wall, they want everything to fall in their lap with no effort and lash out when it doesn't, all while continuing to put forth no effort because "it's not fair others get to be rich"
