I am still trying to find spouses for my children, I manged one with good traits for my eldest and heir, since they have some in common I'd hope they'd get along well, and there'd be a better chance of one of them getting quick again.

I have a second one old enough (and she's an excellent diplomat) to actually marry and I still dunno what to do. Just political concerns political concerns political concerns.
It's supposed to be HitTheGroundWalking.
I always quit during the learning scenario when it tells me to choose a spouse. Too many choices and the search function doesn't work like I think it should. Matter of fact, I can't figure out how the search funtion works at all.
Really? I haven't had any such issues with the search function.

It works fine, but it took me about 5 attempts over several years to fully understand what the tutorial was laying down.
I hope this ****in' world ****in' burns away
And I'd kill you all if I had my way
Finding good spouses can be hard. In my Suomi game, I rule the largest civilized country in the world and the best option for my female heir to the throne was a far-away foreign duke's son who had four of the virtues + Brave. And even that kid wouldn't have been a choice if I hadn't turned on marriages with infidels.

Also, just gonna link to the wiki here

I can find spouses, the problem is convincing them to marry my kid.

As for the wiki, I've been trying to utilize this page https://ck2.paradoxwikis.com/Advanced_marriage_guide but I'm still getting a lot of nos.

I want check the traits of the princess of France so I can marry a family with power over a great nation.

I search "france" and nothing shows up.

I scroll through the available options, and of course the princess of France is there.
Seven kids and I can't find a good spouse for any of them. I feel like restarting was pointless. I thought I understood better how to get good marriages but I can't get any.

You cant marry the first or second in line. You have to go down the line of succession a few steps. You need to get that marriage before the female becomes landed and has to worry about heirs with their dynasty. Same with a matrilineal marriage. You get a son that is a little off the radar but has a claim, and then you press the claim. But remember you need to be a duke to press other peoples county titles and keep them as vassals.

IMO trying to do female centric tribal is hard and annoying. Gavelkind makes a lot of people important and inheritance confusing. If I remember correctly you are doing a year 867 start. The Ireland that is tutorial island is 1066. Which is much easier to play the marriage game.

If you can't convince them to marry, then you're not finding spouses. :P

Yeah, I've been attempting to do so, but there's not a lot of options, unfortunately. I understand the concept, it's just not actually working well.

Nah, I'm doing the earliest start since that was recommended. >.> And why is there no option that just makes the game 100% gender equal? I mean really. And I did ask for recommendations on a location that'd suit me better, but nobody said anything. I mean I'm not that far along yet, I could still restart my restart. ._.

Recommended by who? every Ireland tutorial island rec i have ever seen is 1066
Quit Crying
Ireland is pretty much the easiest and best start. Hell, I sometimes LIKE to play in Ireland even though it has the stigma of being Tutorial island just because I love Irish legends/folklore/etc.

Lots of people were saying Ireland and someone else recommended the earliest start so that's what I did. Is that one of the reasons I had so much trouble in my first attempt?

not sure if it was you, but I noticed the Mythos mod listed in the inactive mods list.

Not sure if thats why your last game locked up or not.

Most powerful vassal of the HRE
Young, with good stats
Clear goal with the formation of Italy, and then either becoming emperor of the HRE or forming a separate Italian empire
She's the kind of badass female leader you seem to be looking for

That's Mythos, Mythos 2 is actively supported. Heck it was updated like a week and a half ago.

Would it still work with me making my own ruler there though?

I feel like then, location matters a lot.

Edit: Hmm, I suppose when I start doesn't really matter since if I want to do so there's mods that allow for playing past the vanilla end date. I suppose I could try 1066 Ireland if it's truly that much better.

I haven't really been playing. I prefer EU.
Oh cool, it looks like I could change my dynasty name and CoA whenever, and the other thing I'd need I could just console in.

I guess that'd let me START with some ties to other people...

Let's try to do Tutorial Island properly.

There's two here who are already petty kings but I'm still not sure about not using the designer. Ehhhh I'll probably be fine with it.

If those ultimate portrait/unit/music packs ever hit 75% off I'm definitely gonna buy them

Went 1066 and picked Mumu, and a de jure claim over the southern tip. Found a husband with something in common and Genius. And they're falling in love so I hope it's only a matter of time before they start churning out the children.

And maybe THEN I'll actually be able to play the marriage game, as you called it.

Also the river here makes me feel safer.

I'm glad I've owned the game for a few years so I just bought a few of the individual packs at a time. Even though I play the AGoT mod almost exclusively and barring unofficial submods the portrait and unit packs are unused.

Still nice to have every piece of DLC released in case I play vanilla

Because the search bar is for traits and names, not titles. You should be searching in the title menu for titles.
I'm having an issue being attacked by some princess from somewhere. I desperately need to get my hands on some allies. I've looked, but no luck.

The best allies are the regular ones you'd suspect; England, Francia, Spain, Pictland, etc. They generally have a lot of children you can marry to yours. That being said, don't neglect allying with local rulers. Sometimes, strong kings can have deceptively small holdings, so always check how many troops they can raise in their character menu.

As Ireland, I'd probably suggest Pictland for an easy ally (you share the same culture and religion, they usually don't have Irish claims, and they are close enough to help in the case of any invasion/war).

Also remember that alliances are tied to characters, so some of your alliances/pacts will end when your character dies. Always keep an eye on that, and don't be afraid to use allies when you've got them or when you think someone is coming for your land.
Local ones were what I was attempting but there was no luck, somewhere bigger might work better since local is so small.

Seems I have Scotland and England due to the people saying to try 1066.

Alright, managed the earl of fife. I'm not being totally outnumbered, but I do need help.

What is the difference in troops? If it's like 2-1, it's not unwinnable. Remember to use terrain to your advantage. Mountains, forests, and hills all convey a bonus to the defending army. Crossing a river puts a penalty on the attacker. Some commanders specialize in certain terrain types, and I could be wrong, but I think fighting on forts conveys some bonus. Given that you are outnumbered, the enemy is likely to attack your troops if you are adjacent to them, meaning you can easily bait them into a trap.

Another thing to consider is that any amphibious invasions have a disadvantage; when they make landfall, they will be 1/2 morale, meaning you can score a major success attacking them as they land. Be aware, however, that overseas allies may not have access to ships to convey their troops to your land to help. Shouldn't be a major problem in 1066, but it still depends on the ally (you can't actually check their ships in their character portrait, so you may have to manually look at their coastal holdings to see if they have docks). Mercenaries, on the other hand, can be raised locally and generally are decent at fighting.

What princess is invading you?

Edit: I forgot to mention, for future reference, some provinces carry attrition penalties (mostly the Baltic, Russian, and Scandinavian regions) that will drain troops as well. Winter can have an effect too (though that may be tied to a DLC, I can't remember).
It'll be fine at first, but then more suddenly appear that I didn't even realize were coming.

Anyway, after another try, some more prep, and the right ally, I seem to be fighting them off.

And William the Conqueror's daughter.
It's supposed to be HitTheGroundWalking.
Did you take your 300 gold loan from the Jews yet? If so you might be screwed if you have no money, otherwise take the loan out (its a decision in intrigue screen) and hope the cheapest mercenary company is not being used.

Basically at the start of every game you should take that loan and start a war with your target and buy a cheap merc.
In Ireland or most one country starts you can steamroll most of the island with your levy and mercs. Dont disband the mercs until you run low on money. At that point you should have an advantage over the rest of the island so you can conquer them. The sooner you can get over 50% or the island and save enough money and prestige to create the king title the sooner you can offer vassalization to whoever is left and hopefully avoid more wars.
Quit Crying
Oh, and if you are tribal and raise the prestige army, remember that it doesn't disband until all wars end . You can chain wars together and keep the prestige army going for multiple wars, so long as you remember to start a new war before the current one ends.
I've never seen any such loan being an option.

I did end up managing.

I'm back up to seven kids now, and most of them aren't betrothed.

Looks like... 2 daughters and 3 sons still need to be betrothed, or married in the case of the eldest.

The people around me have such small families that getting a foot-hold is proving difficult.

Edit: Ooh, I can matrilinearly marry one of my daughters to the fourth son of Osriage. They have political concerns but the positives look to be outweighing those.

I feel like I miiight have made some decent matches. So far all I have is a grandchild with a weak claim on the duchy of Lothian. Rather struggling with making marriages IN Ireland though.
It's supposed to be HitTheGroundWalking.
Yeah, borrowing money from the Jews is a thing in the Sons of Abraham DLC, iirc.

In my Suomi game, I don't have access to any "private banks" so I can't use that tactic. I had to do what Dash Harber suggested in chaining wars with the tribal army.

But since you like to go the marriage game.... I dunno. It's a lot harder that way.

Here's the problem, though; cashing in on claims doesn't guarantee that the pressed claim will be within your realm. You actually have to land the claimant first, meaning that at some point you will have to conquer someone.
I am currently also semi reluctantly pressing my de jure claim in desumain, justifying it since the leader has all sorts of mean traits.

I feel like I might be ending up with two small portions of England at some point, so that's interesting.

I'm telling you, man, if you are trying to justify war in headcannon, just remember that a united Ireland is more safe and productive for literally everyone compared to a divided kingdom. The small amount of violence now will almost always result in less violence in the long run.
Still, I prefer to take it when the leader is cruel over kind. I keep an eye out.

But then you get super grey morality. Like, what if he is cruel, but his heir is just, kind, gregarious, etc? Are you going to condemn him to a life in exile because his father was a dick? What if the guy is cruel, but his military command is the only thing keeping a horde of angry Vikings from sacking his lands and raping everything in sight?

Despite what everyone at the time said, moral absolutism was assuredly not the flavor of the day during the middle ages.
Why would you say these things, do you want me to not play? Because now I don't want to play.
