Of course I'm not an expert in this field but it just sounds, from an uneducated perspective, like a dangerous idea. The mantle has never been penetrated before--we literally no idea what could happen.
well, the same can be said of basically any new experiment or discovery.
I'm not super educated on the subject either but just consider the size of the earth and the mantle to the size of the hole that would be drilled in it. I can't imagine it making any sort of significant impact in terms of like, earthquakes or whatever
