Why are furries so hated?

Genuinely curious. Im not a part of the furry fandom, but I feel this hate is a little weird. They just seem like adults cosplaying as animals? And they also seem really happy?
I dont really know much about them, just bit about them from general internet stuff, and they seem like some nice folks? So why do people hate them?

I think they get some of that good ol' fashioned clown-hate and to some extent are unfairly lumped in with child predators because the whole fursuit thing is sorta like sports mascots and theme park characters that appeal to children. I don't feel this way but that's what I've gleaned from conversations I've had on this topic.

There's also bit of a creep factor in this blank-faced "creature" being piloted by some anonymous human, sorta like how people hate clowns and shit. Some people are unsettled by people hiding behind masks and facepaint and costumes and stuff.

I used to think it was weird. I still kind of do, to be honest, but it doesn't affect me in any way so I don't actually care or judge for it. And I recently came across this; can't say how accurate it is.

Uh... A good sum of furries are non binary and asexual.

Furry here. I met more non furries who are degenerates and bloody weirdos. I find non furries who are into Waifu culture are weird.

I prefer Animal and robotcharacters in media over humans. Robots as in mechs, Transformers and Super Robots. DBZ ones are kinda lame.
