I don't think I Have ever played a game like this. That sounds like it's relegated to mobile gacha slop.

Simafort, as in Breath of Fire 2? Not sure if I'd call that the best dungeon or the worst event, but either way, I either haven't encountered the situation, or don't have any particular opinion on it if I have.
Every time you make Actual Intelligence look bad, Artificial Intelligence gets pushed that much harder.
So the city of the ancients in FF7?
Common sense says it may not taste good, but it'll make a turd.

ya, it's one of my favourite dungeons in the game and I like the end of the event with the cooking contest; but the half hour before that is just such an annoying slog

One of my all time favorite games. That whole event chain, from the moment you you meet Jean in the woods, to Petape's desperation move leading to the boss fight, is full of ridiculousness. I love when a game can have seriously dark/heavy points, but contrasts that with being absurdly whimsical at times. Dragon Quest Builders does that fairly well too in places. Going from chapter 3 to chapter 4 is a hell of a gut punch, and I mean that in the best way possible.

I hadn't played the first one, but I loved Builders 2

DQB1 is a step back as far as building mechanics go, but it's a step up in game elements and plot. Brace yourself for weapons, tool, and armor that break (DQB was doing it before BotW made it a spotlight issue) and a hunger mechanic that actually matters. Another point of note is that the chapters are compartmentalized and you bring nearly nothing between them except for some recipes unlocked by completing challenges. Also on the topic of the challenges, which version you get matters. Earlier versions require you to complete chapters in a specific number of days, while later versions change it to collecting/crafting a number of unique items.

It might sound daunting, and it is a more challenging game because of those differences, but it's also a more serious game, but again, also has some good silliness mixed in.

This, though I was thinking more MMO slop.

"Event" implies things about the game in question. Which are generally the same things that keep me from ever playing the game in question.

Though even beyond that, I don't really care about dungeons enough to think of them in terms of "best". They're mostly just roadblocks that are in my way as I try to get to the next piece of the plot. I may hate one if they're overly BS or grindy, but I don't think I've ever liked one, let alone loved one.

Event was the word here that threw me off. I don't think I play games with "events" in the way that Lok was describing.

It's just the way I phrased it, I think the term in game design is Scenario since it's what Scenario Directors work on.

For example, in FF7 there's the Wutai rescue event which is tied with the da-chao statue dungeon

Yeah, I wouldn't call that an event. That's more like a quest or a scenario. Or "just part of the story".

An event is more like what you get in online gatchas and MMOs, where you'll get exclusive quests and item drops for a limited amount of time. Usually limited time, so they can exploit FOMO.

Like right now, Disney Dreamlight Valley is running the Haunted Floating Festival and Witchful Thinking Star Path:

Event works. Event doesn't necessarily mean a social event, timed event, seasonal event, or something along the lines. Generally speaking, event is a very broad term, pretty much just meaning a thing that happens.

Indeed. Something like "story arc," "scene," or "chapter" might fit better, but "event" works fine.
This is my signature. It exists to keep people from skipping the last line of my posts.
But y'all know now that I mean an encapsulated segment of gameplay in an RPG, right?

No, I thought you were talking about the scenes that interrupt the gameplay in order to show you things that happen.
