I do, there just hasn't been anything I wanted to play using it. I played that strategy game that I can't remember the name of. Had three in the name or something similar

I was extremely excited when it was first shown off. I was very eager to play Octopath Traveler, but personally found the writing so bloody boring that I couldn't bring myself to care about it.

The only game that I've played through and beat in "HD-2D" was DQIII. Had a great time with that, and I feel like they've only gotten better and more detailed with the graphical style.

Also Ive been playing Dragon Quest III HD-2D. Never really been much of a Dragon Quest guy. Im really liking it! Making me want to pick up I&II.

Right after I played the remake of III, I jumped back and played the 1st one on NES (actual NES + CRT). Was very satisfying to beat.

I hope they remake V. Ive always heard that one is really good. I know theyre remaking VII, but its not in the HD-2D style.

I love it. My first and i guess only experience with it was with star ocean second story r. I Was blown away by the graphics.

octopath 2's super good imo. 1's aight

went back and replayed 2 with a big mod (new dawn) and it made the game even better, though generally harder

I liked it in Octopath, but the number of times it's been used for games since then has kind of killed the novelty. It's still a nice look, just not one that really stands out anymore.

it's also really just a treat to have so many tonally disparate stories line up together. respective prologue spoilers, but compare osvald ( revenge for my dead wife and child ) to agnea ( gotta be the diva my mom dreamed to be ), ochette ( seek out the legendary beasts to prevent something bad from happening ) to partitio ( capitalism can twist people ). they're all winners

Not to play contrarian, but has it been that many times?

Octopath Traveler - 2018
Triangle Strategy - 2022
Live A Live - 2022
Octopath Traveler II - 2023
Dragon Quest III - 2024
Dragon Quest I + II - 2025

Unless we're counting ones that are outside of Team Asano, it isn't that many. There aren't too many other games that come to mind that are 'fully' in the HD-2D style created by Octopath. Star Ocean: Second Story R is the closest I think. I think people kinda lump together other 2D remakes, like the Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters, along with all the pixel-art indies. The Asano games are keeping up their release pace though, so you're also kinda right at the same time. That Elliot game is coming out in 2026 and Octopath Traveler 0 will probably be late 2026.

I actually wouldnt count Star Ocean 2. Thats just what the original looked like, the remake just made the visuals more clear.

It's not *that* many, but at the same time it has pretty clearly gone from "this is a cool new art style that's really unique" to "ooh, they're making another game with the Octopath art style" when Triangle Strategy was announced to "they've released at least one game per year with this art style for the last five years" (at least once we hit 2026 and Elliot/Octopath 0 come out). It may not actually be a matter of completely saturating the market with the style, but it's lost a lot of the remarkability it had 2-3 years ago. We're now at the point where I just kind of assume that if Squenix is releasing a non-3D game, it'll be HD2D.

they haven't done it with any final fantasies yet which is surprising

seems like it'd just be easier for them to do, and make people happy they aren't going full remake, with them

like i'd play an hd2d remaster of ff5 in a heartbeat

also if they acknowledged mystic quest with a re-release that be neat
