It was after my time, so no.

My cousin had one, for all of like an hour before she got annoyed with it. Ripped the batteries out and threw it in her closet never to be seen again.
I feel like I need to put something here, or else I am one of those weird people who think that having no signature is a character trait.
These things are way too damn expensive, did they cost less back then or were people actually willing to spend big money on these things?
Cause the best is yet to come
Yeah, my sister had one which I bought off her for cheap a couple years later when she got bored of it. I also had one of those Baby Furbies or Furby Junior, whatever they were called that came out in the early 2000s. I even vaguely remember having a CD-Rom Furbie game.

I'm pretty sure I had multiple at one point. My sister and I both got our own, and maybe I picked up another from a garage sale or something.

I'd always heard the rumors that it can copy and imitate your voice, but never got it to happen. Really just moved around a bit and looped the same handful of lines.
I thought they were creepy and stupid. But I was also in my 20s at the time.

I honestly don't remember chasing any fads as a kid though. Not in a "I AM DESPERATE TO HAVE THIS BECAUSE IT IS THE IN-THING" sort of way. Maybe it's just because I don't really see the fads of my time AS fads - versus, say, being able to rationally look at stuff like hoola hoops, pet rocks, and mood rings because they predated me, or stuff like Furbies and Beanie Babies and Tamagotchis because I was old enough when they came out to see them as being stupid.

Things like Transformers toys or GI Joe toys or later TMNT toys don't really feel like fads , because there was at least something behind them (mainly the TV shows).

Maybe something like the Rubik's Cube might count, but I never really owned one at the height of its popularity. Cabbage Patch Kids would definitely fit the criteria, but they still predated me ever-so-slightly, and definitely weren't aimed anywhere near my demographic. Garbage Pail Kids cards maybe?

I never owned one personally, but my sister had one and I liked playing with it. As well as the robot dog which was also a bit of a fad.
So I was standing still at a stationary store...

They seemed kinda neat, but not enough for me to want one.
Every time you make Actual Intelligence look bad, Artificial Intelligence gets pushed that much harder.
Yup, several, even a McDonald's happy meal one.
Still got them somewhere.

My sister got one.

They were incredibly annoying.
I thought that they were angels, but to my surprise
We climbed aboard their starship, we headed for the skies
Never the real thing. I wasn't into the craze, but I did wind up with one of the cheapo knock-offs you got from one of the fast food meals.

No. My best friend owned one. It started annoying her, so she took the batteries out. It would still blink after that, so it got shoved into the closet. Creepy thing.

My daughter ended up getting 2 when she was a kid. One was some cheapo happy meal toy that didn't talk. The other was one of the newer ones with the glowing eyes, that she found at a swapmeet. She got annoyed with it at some point and shut it off. Not sure if she still has it?

So were Furbys supposed to be based on Gremlins?

My little brother did and after a while he got bored of it and put it up in the closet. Every once in a while it would just randomly talk from the closet. Scariest shit to be sleeping at 3am and suddenly something just talks from the closet.

Must have been weird for the monsters under the bed too.

A few years ago my wife was wanting one, luckily enough I came across one at a thrift store for a few bucks

Their speakers have a tendency to die, so I ordered a replacement set that were meant for a pair of headphones but were the same size as the one in the Furby

Soldered the speaker in, got it fresh batteries and gave it to her for Valentines
