I thought they were creepy and stupid. But I was also in my 20s at the time.
I honestly don't remember chasing any fads as a kid though. Not in a "I AM DESPERATE TO HAVE THIS BECAUSE IT IS THE IN-THING" sort of way. Maybe it's just because I don't really see the fads of my time AS fads - versus, say, being able to rationally look at stuff like hoola hoops, pet rocks, and mood rings because they predated me, or stuff like Furbies and Beanie Babies and Tamagotchis because I was old enough when they came out to see them as being stupid.
Things like Transformers toys or GI Joe toys or later TMNT toys don't really feel like
fads
, because there was at least
something
behind them (mainly the TV shows).
Maybe something like the Rubik's Cube might count, but I never really owned one at the height of its popularity. Cabbage Patch Kids would definitely fit the criteria, but they still predated me ever-so-slightly, and definitely weren't aimed anywhere near my demographic. Garbage Pail Kids cards maybe?
