This was way better than slay the princess, slay the princess is a cute abstract story but this is actually a coherent story.

And I loved slay the princess, don't get me wrong.

Also, you hate visual novels that are made in western countries? Anyone can write a good story.

western VNs too often try to be different for the sake of being different, like they have some massive aversion to the format they're copying. it's big "i'm not like the other girls" energy. obviously they CAN be good (look at katawa shoujo) but so often they're just obnoxiously full of themselves

These seem like games Humble Choice would give you, so I hope they do. They are from 2021 and 2023 so that would be pretty good timing for a Humble Choice inclusion

Nah, the single example you give of a western visual novel you like is the only one that has a generic schoolgirl anime art style.

the original designs were made by a doujin manga artist and some 4channers got his approval before making it, so yeah it took after his art style. but it's good because it's good, not the art style. there's no cynicism towards the medium, it's just made by a bunch of random strangers on the internet who really loved visual novels

@agesboy ok, actually, I have to admit you're kind of right because all I can find for western visual novels are really abstract experimental games and I can't actually find anything else that interests me. Scarlet Hollow really is one of a kind, just a straightforward visual novel.

I feel the same way towards anime as I do towards this, I like them as long as they're not otaku weeb pandering games, I really get nothing from an anime/story about a bunch of cute girls that's supposed to make me feel happy or something. It's like the female version of twilight. I like a story that can stand on its own without my crippling loneliness playing a factor.

the best western ones I hear about are some made with 3D models (treasures of nadia, being a ***, etc) but those seem so antithetical to why I like visual novels I can't get into them. they feel like a whole different thing even if yeah, I know they're visual novels
