Theyre teaching high school summer school classes but theyre under 21 so they need someone over 21 in the class to manage or whatever. Idk.

so thats me. 6 hours a day for 29 days. 40 an hour. Not bad.

18-20 years olds teaching high school? Holy shit
Big yellow joint big yellow joint I'll meet you down at the big yellow joint
I assume it's the summer school part that plays into them being allowed to in the first place?

Yeah, I was surprised too. I was like wtf. But whatever, I didn't set it up so I'm not on the chopping block. I'm just getting paid.

I'm the "Summer School Teacher Supervisor". I'm supervising Integrated Science 1, Integrated Science 2, World History, and US History.

I'm really not sure. I'm just looking at the paycheck tbh. Plus, I like working with young adults. The whole, 'they are the future' stuff really gets me.

Good on you, man, and I mean that sincerely. I hope it pans out into something long term if that's what you're going for in your career.
What exactly do you do? Just watch them teach or something?

I'd guess most of it boils down to "they're close enough in age to the students that we don't trust them not to sleep with them."

An 18 year old already has a teaching degree?

Apparently there needs to be an adult 21 n up in the room because of some regulation. I guess the school thought they were gonna save money w young teachers but they didnt and had to hire me.

Surely they aren't all teaching in the same room, are they? So youbhave to walk around to different classrooms throughout the day or something?

The teachers and the students are left alone at some point, no?

And not to get to personal, but where do you live lol?

I'm a teacher and am curious!

Correct. I will be in different rooms.
I live in the SF Bay Area right next to Oakland.
This isnt the main school I work for, I was just offered the job. It seems funny to me too, but Im not going to turn down $40 an hour to supervise teachers. More than I make normally and I need the money.

This was exactly my thought. He's definitely there to make sure the teachers don't sleep with the students.

Not to belittle TC's calling, but I'm not sure "guy who watches baby teachers" is the most fulfilling career track.

lololol, i have a long term gf, but no wife yet. two kids out of wedlock by different women, but those were in my crazy 20s. fortunately, i'm fairly sane now and don't play around like that anymore.

It's summer school so it sounds more like "tutoring" for the teachers, which doesn't sound like a bad idea. Gives people experience right out of high school who have an interest in that field. I'm assuming it's not sponsored by a public school system?
Correct, this is a catholic school and the teachers are all alumni.

This is boring but easily the easiest job Ive ever done. Definitely worth $40/hr
"It was so ridiculous and I have so many feelings about it."

I'd be bored for 40 dollars an hour. Especially if it's just part time.
Yes! Its really the easiest job I've ever had.
9-12, hour break, 1-3. Sitting in the back of the room, just chilling, going on gamefaqs or whatever I want really. To be honest, I follow along with the class for a free Chem review (first class is incoming juniors repeating chem). Chem was always interesting to me. The second class is regular science for Freshman who have to repeat it. Basic stuff, but not bad.

And 6x40= $240 a day. Why the hell not. I think its 26 days total, so $6,240 (before taxes and child support) is not a bad salary at all for just over a month of work (including weekends). This will definitely give me money for going to see my oldest daughter in September.

Do you get to assist in the classes or are you basically there as a "bouncer"? If I were given permission to be actively involved in any way but not required, I'd definitely take the opportunity if just to make things more interesting.

I actually wanted to be a teacher after High School. It was fun when I had to teach German to younger students for my class.
Yeah, I am. The teacher doesn't mind. She's a cute 19 year old Middle Eastern American woman. She went to the school.
