and play it off like it was a live documentary. it would look so real you could almost imagine yourself among them, maybe even walking with them.

I'm willing to swear something sort of like this has been done. Not as an exhibit, but sort of like a nature documentary. Probably on PBS.

I know PBS used to do a lot of creative stuff, like having a evening news style show about medieval history, where the anchorman would sit at the desk and talk about historical events as if they were currently happening:

These already exist. Like, I'm pretty sure there are multiple series like this. I watched one on a flight once.

Ah yes, another favourite of my childhood. I finally rewatched it after years with my mum a couple of years back after finding them on Disney Plus.
