I hope he doens't use the fact that there is an American Pope to try to make the US extra Christian and shit.

There's an American Pope? I didn't know that was possible

Only 69 years old. He may be around a long time.
He is notably extremely neutral on basically everything.

I'm hearing from Europe that he may have been chosen specifically to reign in American Catholics. Pope Leo XIV is notable for being a VERY vocal critic of Trump and JD Vance.

Really? I was trying to find his views on issues.

The last Pope Leo was pope for 25 years
Will you recognize me?
Call my name or walk on by?
Wouldve never expected another Pope from the Americas so soon, much less one from the U.S.

Best wishes to him.

Of course it's possible. Jesus was American, after all.

It's where a lot of the Catholics are these days.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Catholic_Church_by_country

Hispanics are one of the largest demographics still strongly devout. Europeans have been drifting more towards atheism or agnosticism (or converting to/importing other faiths) over the last few decades (not to mention the places where Protestantism basically replaced it). There are still European Catholics, but proportionally there's a HUGE chunk of the church in The Americas, and you can't really risk alienating them completely by totally ignoring them.

The other major outlier is The Philippines.

If anything hell use this pope as excuse to discriminate against Catholics since he doesnt like Trump.

It can, the longest took three years, but all of the recent elections have been fairly short.

Conclave is very much a thriller movie with a religious coat of paint. lol it is a good movie, but yeah usually selecting the pope doesnt take long in modern times.

I believe that's mostly since they started sequestering the cardinals for the duration. They've got a lot more incentive to agree on somebody when they don't get to leave until they do.

It took three days in the film Conclave , assuming that's the film you're referencing. Papal conclaves hold four ballots per day beginning on the second day. The film draws out events for suspense, so it certainly feels longer than that. If we infer some ballots weren't shown at all, we could interpret the film as spanning maybe four days, but likely it was three.
