Having billionaires say they will be obsolete is a monkey's paw curl though, I know that if they figure out how to replace smartphones it will definitely be something worse. Not to say at this point I'm all that worried about it. Elon Musk is basically full of nothing but horrible takes and nonsensical techbro predictions, and Mark Zuckerberg thought the metaverse would be where everyone wants to hang out
Generally you don't actually need one - there just ends up being some annoying things with businesses where they insist on you needing an app etc.
