in the UK the normal abbreviation is mathsHow is it an abbreviation if it adds an extra letter?
I'm not Bri'ish, so "Math".
How is it an abbreviation if it adds an extra letter?Math ematic s
It's Mathematics not Mathsematics.This
It's Mathematics not Mathsematics.it's mathematics (plural) not mathematic (singular)
it's mathematics (plural) not mathematic (singular)Which is odd, if you think about it, because most other class subjects are singular.
It's science, not sciences.
Art, not arts.
That too may differ per locale. I think arts may be correct in the UK, and at least German does pluralize science (Naturwissenschaft en for natural sciences).
Im British, so its maths for me.
I work in an international school and its the school policy that its referred to as maths too.
So here's a question I've been wondering a while. Are international schools more typically based on British English? Maybe it's a case by case basis between country and school? I feel like I've heard from people who attended and learned English through these schools claim it was based more on British English. But in contrast, all films and music they consume come from America, so they get a mix of influence in the end.
We talk about the arts in the UK, but as a school subject, its art.
