Apparently it's getting a remaster.

https://www.engadget.com/gaming/a-new-ecco-the-dolphin-game-and-remasters-are-on-the-way-205338160.html

I used to love that game.
I'm stoked for this and will 100% buy it but will likely play it for an hour and never finish it

I love the idea of remasters and I buy the shit out of them, but very rarely do I play them through to the credits. Especially if I've finished the game in the past.

Shadow of the Colossus was one remake that I played to the finish, multiple times. But I love that game

Tulips on your organ.
i hope the new game is still confusing and awkward.

I loved that game. Top tier graphics for its time.

I'd be thrilled. Love all 3 games

This could be great, Ecco the Dolphin is a beautiful game but they made it way too hard for some reason
Will you recognize me?
Call my name or walk on by?
The original looked great, but I wasn't a fan
Saw that on nintendo life. I hope they come to switch. I love the first game.
I'm just a girl who loves games
I never knew what I was doing when I played it. I think I rented it once from Blockbuster.

The soundtracks are pretty outstanding; eager to see what they do with them.

I tried it on the Wii Virtual Console and found it pretty frustrating. That being said, we all grew up with games that were pretty frustrating but grew used to the unique engines. It's a beautiful game with great music - it'd be a lot of fun to play through with some QoL upgrades.

Those games terrified the hell out of me.

Deep water. Desperately looking for air pockets.

Dark water.

Giant whales and sharks and stinging jellyfish.

And then.....to make matters far far worse.......ALIENS.

Yup, have the Mega (Sega) CD version, never got very far, but I think my brother or dad beat it.

Very few did, as I understand.

Jesus, I'm old, but not that old PO. What the fuck is chasing that dolphin? A plastic shopping bag?
it's a remaster of both games, and then a likely new game next year, since there's a weird countdown on the website for april 26 2026

It's an octopus or a squid. I forget which.

It's hard to tell because the person playing the game in that clip is absolutely terrible at it, but you're supposed to judge from the tone of the sonar where the height of the gap in the seahorse wall is (the higher the tone, the higher the gap). Missing the gap slows you down, hitting backwards waves (the < arrows) slows you down, and if you get caught you lose. The goal is to hit all the > waves, pass through all the gaps, then grab the seagull and power-up to attack the octosquid hunting you.

There's no real ending, it goes on forever. The goal is to rack up the highest high score you can. They actually had a contest where if you hit a certain high score (50,000, I think?), you could take a photo of your TV and send it to them and they'd send you an iron-on patch (it was the original achievement/trophy system!):

I had the game as a kid. Sadly, I never got anywhere near to the required high score. I was like 6 at the time, so I sucked at most of my ColecoVision and Atari games.

My first 500 post on gamefaqs was a post saying how terrified I was of this game on the Ecco the dolphin boards and a bunch of people agreeing. That had to have been over a decade ago now

Yup

I was messing around with the level select and came across nothing but sharks and water.

Creepy. Wasn't for me
I had to do Ecco for my backlog and they are not the best later on. I mean, it catches the vibe and mood perfectly, but some of the level design is just horrendous.

I only played it on Game Gear at daycare as a kid. How that device didn't get destroyed by kids I have no idea. I remember there was a time limit we had to play on it before it was the next kid's turn. I couldn't even get past level 2 on the Lion King game.
