It was disallowed on this board last year. It's still allowed on other boards, like Current Events (which is the purported board for politics now).

Technically CE only I believe, but as always, mods will not have the time, inclination or numbers to patrol for technical violations, so it comes down to what people mark.

"no politics" is an extremely vague rule that is only selectively applied.

for example, take the following statement: I think slavery is bad, and should not be tolerated by people or their governments.

do you imagine that statement will ever get someone moderated for discussing politics?

I still don't understand why they quarantined CE as the de facto politics board when they could've either reopened the politics board or just banned the discussion from the site entirely. It feels like they're trying to have it both ways, gradually shut down politics discussion by bleeding CE users but also not get the politics discussers to leave immediately. In the long run I feel like the way they approached it is just going to alienate more users than it would have saved

the way they handled politics in general is the same way the US has handled politics in general, over the last 10 years, sadly. People are afraid to speak their mind because theyre worried theyll be judged / start fights with others.

with that being said, its sadly true. Im strongly on one side though, and every fucking day I cant fucking BELIEVE that half the country believes the opposite side

it's legit just fandom not wanting to deal with that shit because people will invariably start heated arguments. fandom as an umbrella company does not want to deal with that shit. it's like a school enacting a zero tolerance policy- it's just easier to moderate, and iirc it's not like they specifically wanted to buy out gamefaqs anyways

Why would you want to? Not a lot of people on this site can handle different perspectives outside their own, and it always results in arguments and spam-reporting of otherwise harmless users.

Want to discuss politics? Literally go anywhere else on the internet.

Gamefaqs is not the place for that.

there are a few places on here that still are pretty civil despite a lot of conflicting views, and one I know of got an exception to the rule of CE being the only place for politics

it's obnoxoius because the way the world is run everything is political, everything a politician does can have an effect your life therefore Everything = Politics.

Price of videogame hardware? political because price is determined by import/export. Treatment of Game developers? Political, because how they are treated is directly affected by worker laws.

And ultimately games are Art, no? And art is often indicative of current political climates, think of the military games that help fuel the 2000s War on Terror or the ones that criticize it, now simply discussing a game is inadvertently about politics. Maybe they just want this site to hurry up and die already though.

Realistically none of the mods should be enforcing it as it doesn't make sense, but when have Gfaqs moderators ever been known for their rational behavior?

That's because that half of the messages consist of transphobic drivel that doesn't belong anywhere. You only have to tread carefully when it comes to discussing trans people if your idea of "discussion" is to deny their legitimacy. If you're a rational, decent person, you'll have no issues.

In the initial announcement topic, the question of trans rights came up and the official position was "trans rights aren't political." Obviously, that's bullshit (they shouldn't be political, but anyone with a quarter of a functioning neuron can see that they are), but the takeaway is that the ToS' position on trans issues has not changed (that is, transphobia=bad, anything else is fair game).

I literally have not interacted someone with "differing views" without them freaking out on me in like 5 years. Like all the pent up emotions about how evil and terrible and dumb and I'm ruining their life they have are whirling up, but there's no single thing they can say that I would actually understand and they know it. The air I breathe out is evil. They're just not raised to argue anymore. It's a different strategy entirely.

So yeah I think we're gonna make it as a species.
