8.1 is actually pretty solid.

Even 8 wasn't terrible once you get used to the UI. It gets compared to Vista or ME a lot, but it's decently functional as far as Windows goes.

I actually liked Windows 8. I liked the basic flat UI and lack of start menu means nothing to me. I just hated the mobile features and telemetry as that shit has no business being on a desktop OS.

Never did use it. Previous PC was at 7 with a boot SSD as the C: so small that I had trouble keeping even a gig free to avoid trouble, with so much software insisting on a C: presence even if I installed it to my HDD on D:. Any upgrade to the Windows version was not feasible. With my new PC since late 2023, I jumped to 11. What it may or may not spy on, I'm not too concerned with. This is 2025. Everything there is to know about me, a score of countries, secret services and big companies already do regardless.

I skipped 8 altogether. The last laptop I bought was in 2015, and it came with 8, but I immediately upgraded to 10 because that had just rolled out. I used 7 on my desktop up until 2020, when I upgraded to 10 to be able to play PSO2.

It's hilarious because it was the peak of os graphics and everything went downhill from there.
