It's nearly inconceivable, given that I generally don't like these never-ending-beta survival/builder games and I greatly dislike the Pokemon games(although the Pokemon themselves are cool).

This game has a fantastic gameplay loop and is actually fun to play. It never feels like there's nothing to do and the open world is both greatly varied and utilized well.

It's a legitimately good game, beyond the core "Ha-ha-pokemonz-with-gunz" meme and I can't put it down.

The monster designs are pretty good too, but Pokemon proper has set that bar pretty low for a long time now.
Hail Hydra
Everything about Pokemon has been a low bar for a long time now besides fan support

Honestly that's what makes me hate it, no offense game freak devs (actually yes offense)
try to take the best of me go away
You
Palworld did what Pokmon has been failing to do for a while: give pokmon something interesting to do besides battling.

My prediction was that the next big Pokmon thing was going to be a Pokmon farming sim like Stardew Valley that focuses on the companionship with the 'mons themselves. That would PRINT money.

This is pretty close to that with the pals simultaneously able to be trained and using pals as automation.

Palworld is pretty ingenious tbqh.

Nah, farming sim where you can put the Pokemon to work. Sort of like how you can use the Junimos as a slave force to harvest all your crops.

Have Pokemon be able to do different things based on their affinity. So Rock-types can mine, Grass-types can farm, Water-types fish, etc. Then if you do a mine dive, instead of fighting monsters yourself, you pull out the 'mons to do it for you. Or conversely, you still fight, but the 'mons act as support powers and heal you, buff you, debuff the enemy, or deal extra damage.

When Palworld first came out, I literally spent over twelve hours a day playing it nonstop for a good month. It's an incredibly fun game. I haven't played it since, though, but I've been meaning to get back into it with the updates.
Agreed, it's pretty great. I played it a lot on release, took a break, then got rehooked on it.

It's a confusing dynamic. For the most part your just capturing wild Pals like any Pokemon trainer would capture Pokemon. You use them for battle like Pokemon, too. But you can also use them for labor. But it's implied that they like doing the labor for you, or are compelled to through the "mind control" of the Pal Spheres, which sticks a wrench in the morality.

Then you have the concept of Pal "Poaching". But what does this entail? There's a Free Pal Alliance (essentially Palworld PETA) that advocates for the freedom of Pals, but they also have their own morality issues involving their actions. You have the Syndicate who are painted as raiders who set up camps and kill every Pal in sight, but also capture them and lock them in cages for some reason. But that's not far from your own actions either. There are wildlife sanctuaries that are paid for by the Free Pal Alliance that are meant to be off limits to your character, too, and you do get a bounty if you're found capturing or even stepping foot on them. So there is a sense of law and order, even if very vague.

The reality is that the game is still in Early Access and not all aspects of story are ironed out. Like, there's not even an end goal yet. I really find it less appropriate to compare the game to Pokemon when it should be compared to ARK.

What is this fucking salt lmao

Anyways, I would still compare it more to Pokemon, even if they contrast in more ways than they share common elements.

I haven't played ARK, but my impression of that game from it's pre-early access days is that it was always intended to be "Everything-and-the-kitchen-sink: The Game"

Whereas Palworld from the very start was conceptualized as an obvious satirical take on Pokemon.

Even though they share genres, Palworld will always be indirectly linked to Pokemon.

"Fame" is a poor measure of worth. It's how insecure people try to justify their life choices by attaching them to what they perceive as the "in thing".

Just play what you enjoy, and stop worrying so much about whether or not other people's fun is "valid" or not. You'll be a happier person that way.

To be fair, even in Pokemon you're basically using technology to trap and enslave wild animals, and then forcing them to cockfight for your own amusement. You kind of have to ignore the real world implications entirely if you don't want to be completely overcome by moral quandaries.

(And that's before we start asking moral and ethical questions about a culture that sends its children out unsupervised and unchaperoned to wander across the countryside before they've even reached puberty, challenging random strangers to fights, and having the losers forced to hand over their lunch money to the winner like some insane high school bullying. Or having those same children try and hunt down insanely dangerous wild animals that can literally shoot lightning, fire, and ice, psychically influence minds, grant wishes, or rewrite time and space .)

The anime tries very hard to try and sanitize those sorts of elements, and to justify the whole thing, but it's all incredibly sketchy.

This is why I like Palworld. They at least make an attempt to acknowledge the exploitation.

Also, I believe it was Black/White that brought up this dilemma but quickly handwaved it away as "Pokemon respect humans and WANT to coexist with them. They love battling each other for your amusement!"

I always build my second base as my main production base on a perfectly flat circular cliffside on the west side of the yellow mountains. It has a bunch of iron nodes in the center that keep respawning and it's almost always the first place taken on multiplayer servers.

I'm pretty sure that's right where I built it. I had to make a logging site pretty quickly due to the lack of immediate access to trees. But it's a crap ton of flat land that made for an infinitely better location for the expedition hub, which I previously had to build on TOP of my other base and was actually inaccessible.

I made the mistake of building my first base right on the ruins where you start the game.

By the time I realized how bad of a mistake that was, it was already too far along to be worth dismantling and moving. Plus, I made it work in a way that's kind of neat.

I built mine on the cliffside nearby and ended up making a wooden skyscraper of sorts to get most of the production sites to fit lol

Why does it need to be as famous as Pokemon? Are you incapable of enjoying something unless you know that millions of other people are enjoying it at the same time?

I build my first aesthetic base down at the edge of the cliff at the bottom of that waterfall at the beginning, and I just use my third option as a mobile base for temporary ore collection or whatever. I don't know if the new updates have added options for more bases though. I did see I was able to upgrade my base level further now, but I wasn't seeing any added benefits.

With the kind of love and care I put into my bases, I might as well >_>'

I just unlocked my third base and have started putting the finishing touches on it.

At level 35, I'm kicking myself for just now realizing that I can build an ore mine.
Hail Hydra
You got me starting it up again for the first time since launch.

I've just unlocked my third base as well. I think I'm over the hump that I do of restarting the game every day because I get overwhelmed with how much I've done and want to micro-manage the early game better. But now I'm at the point where I'm really struggling to make my base sustainable. It's really difficult right now for me to keep up with food production. I'll go out and hunt down like 80 mushrooms and make 80 marinated mushrooms for the base, then go out again to collect more and when I get back, everyone's gobbled them all up. I even have my base set to Relaxed Work.

Speaking of, I've found out that there's pretty much zero difference in work speed between Relaxed and Standard Work settings and with Relaxed I never have to worry about sanity depletion. There's barely any difference with Super Hard Work, either so I think I'll just leave them on Relaxed.

I've recently placed down six plots of wheat, though. So I should at least start to produce flour for jam buns. I think the thing I need to do is actually go out and get better Pals.
Food is weird as hell to me. I'll have long periods of time where a base is perfectly self-sufficient with plenty of food to go around, just to come back and find that my pals are starving, with all of the food supplies completely depleted.

I dun get it
Hail Hydra
I will say that I was much smarter about building my third base(I thankfully got progressively smarter with all 3). It's a straight up 4 story fortress with more than enough room in the courtyard for more plantations and supply deposits.

I even built a three-floor stable outside the main building.
Hail Hydra
I think I do remember it getting much easier to keep up with after a certain point last time I played, so I just gotta keep at it. I remember settling on massive amounts of salad to sustain my bases once I got tomato and lettuce plantations made.
Also really like the new update that came out. I thought it was just going to be crossplay and a couple fixes to bugs I never see. I've been looking forward to vanity slots, and there's a bunch of new QoL updates. New achievements, too!
A ranch with 4 Chikipis inside usually takes care of my bases' food needs, though in one specific base one of the pals would just get stuck somewhere and starve to death anyways lol

Haven't really bothered with the other plantations besides the berry one or most of the recipes; just made a bunch a fried eggs for the road and let the pals eat the eggs/berries. I do recall some of the food/ingredients being important for breeding so I'll have to get on that eventually.
