Again, people have to not be paying attention at all to not very clearly see that Cloud and Aerith are the canon couple as it's so obvious and in your face. Cloud thinks of Tifa like a sister.
I love Lord Jesus, Family Matters (for Steve & Laura which I typed up a beautiful alt from Just One Date episode) and FFIX (for Zidane & Garnet).

No, Zack and Aerith are the canon couple. Cloud and Aeriths romantic tension is because of Cloud taking on Zacks identity.

Yeah its in your face in the first half of the game because thats what youre supposed to believe the first time you experience the story. Its there to set up the Zack plot twist.
The difference between fiction and reality is that fiction has to make sense.
