I have things to say about some of those. First off, Alex Kid is trash... luckily you can just skip through levels really fast since they were expecting kids to actually explore and get treasure. Alien Soldier was metal AF and awesome, Alien Storm kinda sucks - but I don't like beat'em ups in general
Altered Beast I have played many times but never finished, so I finished it. yay.
Beyond Oasis... ok, I had a sour opinion but I had no idea it was going to get worse later so in retrospect Beyond Oasis is a Genesis masterpiece being one of the few actually playable games. OH YEAH, Ima dunk on the Genesis library. Almost all the games suck! These are the best of genesis? GARBAGE!!!! I finished Beyond Oasis thinking it was pretty ok, a good+, but after playing more of the library it's basically AAA.
Bio-Hazard Battle - middling shmup, very easy. Not as good as Phalanx on the SNES which I'd put about equal with it.
Bonanza Bros - I was procrastinating this one because i'm more familar with the NES library. I was expecting something like 100 levels I'd have to go through, but there's less than 20 which is a relieve since I don't really like this game. It's very very much an arcade game, I'd almost compare it to Mappy. Doing it multiplayer is probably great! I do love the sound effect when you die cuz it's a very short bitcrushed clip of someone going "shit"
Columns 1 and 3, whatever
Comix Zone. Same pile as Beyond Oasis, I thought it was mid but now I have to put it on a pedestal for being decent.
Crack Down - kinda lame, reminds me of Smash TV, but ehh
Decap Attack - I hate this. Sega has almost no good platformers other than Sonic
Dynamite Headdy - on the other hand, Treasure knows what's up. I was bittered by Decap Attack and the slow start didn't help, but Dynamite Headdy really cranks up. I woulda LOVED to have this as a kid, great platformer and worth the console
Ecco the Dolphins, all of them.... I can see the appeal, and it is for me, but I think Novatrade or whoever submit their game to SEGA and SEGA was like "add enemies". I weirdly think the Ecco games woulda been better without the combat. City of Forever, though, that level is absolute trash and the devs should feel bad for that one. Also, the Machine takes fooooooreeeeevverrrrr, imagine a final boss that has a 5 minute autoscroller before you can an attempt and then it can just OHKO you. Ecco 2's final boss is also hot garbage.
ESWAT - Garbage
Eternal Champion - This one gets a nod because I got to skip it due to previously beating it, but this time I did it on console, I had this game. It's not good. It's ok, better than Fighting Street for sure. Better than Weaponlord (debatably)
Fatal Labyrinth - A gem! I do like roguelikes and even though this one is a FAKE roguelike (there's no map gen, just 30 or so presets it selects from in almost any order)... however, it's really good. there's always a sense of danger and desperation for items. I feel Japanese roguelikes tend to be more like Mystery Dungeon, which I don't like, rather than hard rogue... Fatal Labyrinth is like a hybrid good spot between them. Would play again... and again.
Flicky - arcade whatevers
Gain Ground - ok, I didn't like this game at first cuz I just didn't get it and it starts so slow, but when you start resuing more dudes it gets better. The last levels have absolutely CRUEL enemy placement that requires more than 1 hero type to clear cleanly, so you have to sacrifice a hero to win.... and it has a sorta Dark Souls going on because you can always rescue your ONE most recently killed dude. Slow Start, GREAT finish.
Galaxy Force 2 - one of the best arcade games bitcrushed to crap. It's the Genesis answer to Starfox , but ends up just being Afterburner Slowmode.
Golden Axes - I don't like beat'em ups typically, and all of these fall into the arcade AI trap,... yasee, the AI, if it wants to, can go into hard mode and it's IMPOSSIBLE to hit them; kinda like Mortal Kombat 2 (where it can do the correct counter on the first frame of a move). This is absolutely EGREGIOUS in Golden Axe 3 though with the Mace Women, since they also have more range than you so if they go hard mode you either gotta pop magic. This ironically makes the bosses super easy since they can't go into hard mode... but Golden Axe 3 ruins it by giving the final boss a screen clearing magic attack on a timer
Gunstar Heroes - it's good, it's hard to say if Gunstar or Alien Soldier is better, but it's a Treasure game so ya
Kid Chamelon - THIS GAME IS TERRRRRIBLE!!!!! The level design is atrocious, it combines all the worst parts of Alex Kid and Decap Attack and is just overall is miserable. The costume system is good though so I might compare it to Little Samson or Tiny Toons, but both of those are better.
Landstalker - I know this is a classic, but I think it's just because SEGA owners were thirsty AF for anything. It is pretty decent but the controls are garbage for an isometric game. The combat is boring and there's about 3x too much of it. The puzzles are pretty good and you are rewarded VERY well for exploration, so I don't hate it. The final boss is horrible horrible garbage. And there are some puzzles that are FRAME PERFECT.
Lightcrusader - ... now, I was slightly bittered by Landstalker and didn't want to do another Isometric game, and this one isn't as pretty either... ... but oh boy does Treasure deliver. The puzzles are good (albeit twitchy when it comes to pushing things since you can push EVERYTHING), the combat is satisfyingly tricky (kinda like Landstalker's combat, but the enemies have brains) and you can always solve violent problems with magical solutions. You get loads and loads of health if you have the money, there are secrets everywhere and most importantly... THE CONTROLS ARE GOOD. Well, aside from your awkward jump attack cuz sometimes the dude will do a dive instead of a slash. Plus the game has a lot of cool pseudo 3D effects to spice up the dungeon, including rotating platforms. a GOOD game
Phantasy Star 2 - did it already, but PS2 is a game that depends ENTIRELY on its setting and style cuz the battles are obnoxious (flashing red all the time, not their difficulty) and the dungeons make zero sense. But, it's still a good RPG
Phantasy Star 3 - I... liked it actually. It's very easy tho. The plot and story evolves very nicely, but lacks any cinematic impact. ... if you've played the game before you know what I mean, y'know, after you ride the dragon? There's some replayability as well since the generation splits actual change what the existential threat to the planet is. The dungeons, however, are the opposite of Phantasy Star 2, braindead simple and un-interesting.
Phantasy Star 4 ... GREAT. Does everything right. The comic panel scenes add a ton of impact, the dungeons are well planned, the characters develop... Alys is also such a top tier character, might be one of the best characters in any RPG in terms of character. Also, the game remains difficult all the way to the end... .... but that's as someone who's on the SEGA collection so I get save states. With states it's hard and fair, but on console - since the penalty for death is a game reset instead of getting warped back to town, is VERY harsh, so get grinding!! The music also has arrangements from all the previous PS games. If I were to pick a downside to it, it would be that it too cleanly wraps up the plot for the Algol system... it basically killed the franchise with that perfect cork. luckily we get phantasy star online... As a genesis game, 10/10, as a RPG of any console... ... ehhhhhh, better than Final Fantasy 4 by a tad is where I'd put it.
Ristar - got to skip, is a fun game. one of the playable SEGA platformers
Shadow Dancer - basically Rolling Thunder but easy
