Poll of the Day » What was your first election you voted in?
Also if it wasn't your first eligible year to vote, which was the first year you could vote?

For me it was 2012 in both categories.

2012. I missed being 18 in 2008 by like 1 month. I remember I had to write an essay for my first year college writing class about who I was going to vote for, and I was like "um, I'm 17, I can't vote yet." And the professor didn't believe me until I shower her my driver's license.

my first was 2008 when I voted for Barack Obama.

I didn't vote beforehand because I was in a blue district in a red state
What would Bligh do?
It would have been somewhere in the realm of 2007-09ish, since I turned 18 in 2007, but I don't remember exactly. I just remember that I voted for Jack Layton (or rather, for the local NDP MP, since that's how Canadian federal elections work), who subsequently died before he could run in another election.

Don't care if you believe me or not. I'm still technically a registered Democrat. I just don't recognize that party anymore. Clown world over there now.

But I feel so old these days, it seems like my answer could have been George Washington vs. whoever it was that he beat.

I think the 2011 Canadian Federal election. Unless I'm forgetting something else. Helped elect the first Green party MP, Elizabeth May.

I wish we could return to candidates like that. Not like tonight when it's between Heinrich Himler and Joseph Stalin's wife.
1998, Second Chamber (comparable with the House of Representatives in the USA). Our official but almost fully ceremonial head of state is a king. And you don't vote for kings.

Unfortunate. RIP

Remember that technical disaster in 2000 when Florida voting machines were faulty and nobody knew who won Florida or the Presidency? It ended the use of punch hole ballots. LOL. At least it made for fascinating TV; I was glued to the screen for two weeks listening to analysts.

Cool. Welcome aboard.

It's weird that when you vote at a polling place, they give you a sticker that says "I voted." It's like in kindergarten when you get little gold stars for good grades.

I don't mind. It's kinda cute.

Umm, have you seen the Republican party lately? Nothing but abject denial of our shared reality. Nothing but lies and conspiracies, bigotry, hatred, and division. I guess the Dems not leaning heavily on these things must be what threw you into right-wing extremism, huh? Not that I believe your story.

I know a few businesses in my area were giving out freebies/discounts for people wearing those stickers.
There are four lights.
2011 national parliament election. That was the year the right-populist party got a sudden massive victory, but ultimately didn't end up in the government. The left party I voted for got a couple seats in the big rainbow cabinet that included all parties beside the right-populists and the agrarian-centrists (who lost terribly in the election).
