Anybody watch the penguin yet? Is it any good?

it looks pretty good and I love Colin Farrell but I hated the new Batman. Anybody have any opinions of the penguin yet?

I've heard it's good from people I trust, but I haven't seen it myself yet so that's a second hand review.

I haven't, but I heard it was good so far. The only complaints I've heard is that it felt more like a straight mobster series and less like a batman one.

I've heard this as well - that the show is basically Scarface crossed with The Sopranos, and the main character being called The Penguin (and some of the other character names) is about the only real tie to Batman at all. Like you could essentially make the same show set in New York and without using DC comic names and it would be exactly the same.

But the thing is, that's basically what the Joaquin Phoenix Joker movie was, and people seemed to like that one. So "Batman without Batman" isn't necessarily a bad model to base shows around.

Ironically, it's more or less what Sony wants to do with all their "Spider-Man without Spider-Man" movies, they just seem to be way worse at it.

Does he at least still have his weaponized umbrellas and canes?

it's good, but there was no reason for it to be connected to the DC universe. too many changes to names and backstories because the creator is going for super realism . we will never hear Catwoman be referred to as Catwoman ever again. She will always be Selena.

The reason why people didn't have an issue with the Joker movie was because it wasn't shy about being connected to the DC universe. The Penguin show is written as if it wants nothing to do with DC.

I kind of liked The Batman so I'll check it out eventually I'm sure.
