Choose the restart later option, manually close everything else I'm doing, then do a full shut down instead of just a restart. Just for good measure.

usually I try to use the program anyway. rarely do you actually need the reboot for the program to work, though sometimes you do.

there's lots of technical details/exceptions that are cumbersome to go over, but these days a "shut down" is often actually a "hibernate" and restarting is likely a way more thorough reset of your system.

I run it anyway, unless it installed something like a driver that I need working. But Linux doesn't ask you to restart for software installs, that's a Windows thing. Linux asks you to restart after changes to the kernal, but that's it.

I unplug usb drives without ejecting them.
