Finished 5 a few weeks ago (best build up, weakest conclusion to a main arc would be my final conclusion on that game) and felt like playing some new (for me) AA again.

As if the version for the US of the series was not crazy enough, they had to make a fictional country so they could even go more insane? A 9 year-old defendant, sorry I mean accused and a 14 year old who has to relay the moment of murder? Yikes...
Although, at the same time, if this Seance thing is going to be the main gimmick, it just feels like a mechanical rethread of DL6...

Winston always just came across as a bit incompetent but prideful and Gaspen was just an asshole, so I was not expecting them to go full evil with a Payne brother...

Also, Alberto the Shockwave expy as the final introduction right before the episode ends? I am intrigued and definitely looking forward to where this will all go.

My thoughts are AA5 had a serviceable story (one that I regard as better this time around than any time before) but not the most engaging.

However, while AA6 was probably more fun as a game and had a good enough plot by itself, I think as a contribution to the franchise it probably did even worse than AA4 or 5. 5, for all its issues, did feel like it left the series in a good place to truly turn a corner and make 6 the first real attempt at a "next generation" AA game (as in dial back Phoenix's involvement and focus squarely on the younger protagonists, potentially even giving more time to Trucy and Klavier as part of that) that could serve as the final chapter of Apollo's arc and set up another generational hop in the aftermath.

Instead what we got felt like a refusal to move on combined with a deliberate aversion to start fresh (with Apollo's character going in a bafflingly overcomplicated direction that piles on top of the tangent 5 already added).
If I'm having a bad day I will do what's necessary to see to it that you will be too.
How long has Phoenix known Apollo and Trucy are siblings and still has not told them?

Also, Ree-yus? No thanks, I will just keep calling him Reus.

Also, a random observation that has been bothering me. They either were very lazy with the art, or the Reus in the show, is not the Reus in the poster. The Valant sprite/art for it shows it is a really old picture, but Reus looks exactly the same age then and now. There were also obvious shadows in the recording of the accident.

Guess I am just seeing things again, that the game will point out later while expecting the player to not have noticed it. Like all the "reveals" in the Academy Trial...

Edit: Just noticed Retinz has the same haircut as Reus and looks the right age, so really hoping that is not the big "reveal" of the case...

Not buying Retinz being only 35.

Never noticed before Athena has Dutch in her repertoire.

Bonny... First things are made to obvious with the fire bucket (the dust indicates she did not prepare it, basically spelling out she knew before hand the trick was not going to happen) and she gets the shady character theme that is a version/remix of one of the two worst themes from last game...

Edit: Either something got messed up in translation there, or does Trucy believe Zak was Magnifi's son? Which is weird, because I do remember from AA4/AJ that Trucy is aware of her mother having been a part of Troupe Gramarye?

First playing after having been away on vacation.

Did we really need that much time to reveal a twin switch? It is the most obvious way to do teleportation in illusionism, why is this treated as a surprise?

Guess we can now go for whatever the excuse becomes to roll up the sleeves of Retinz?

This case tries to be Reunion and Turnabout so much... I see what you did there writers, with that accident or murder question, just like Franziska once tried to "trick" us into a self-defence plea. With all the unfortunate implications, that in some way it is still murder, even if it was accidental or in self-defence...

Edit: What Retinz has "up his sleeve"? Such unsubtlety, and yet the writing will expect me to be surprised later?

I do like the Bonny and Betty routine, even if it is just both a watered down and exaggerated Dahlia and Iris.

I can't get enough of these games even though I've guessed most of the twists and plot lines early on
I'm halfway through the second great ace attorney game and will be sad when I'm done
I am annoyed by the lack of conversation in this topic.

I started playing through all the games again. Just finished the first game which I haven't played in over 10 years. 1-4 and 1-5 are still really fun and thrilling

Fortunately the Ace Attorney Investigations Collection is releasing next month
Delicious and vicious, while maliciously nutritious.

Unfortunately that seems to be the norm in these topics. I only get the occasional response to my thoughts in these topics.

I played the DS games ages ago, so I cannot actually make blind playthrough topics about those more popular games and just on the 3DS compilations as I never played those before.

Oh good, I'm not on your ignore list...

I had some concerns.

I guess I never responded to post 2, because it felt very overall reviewy for the entire game.

I do agree that 4 set up some great new ideas, but then back pedalled hard in 5 and 6, while simultaneously trying to include as little as possible spoilery stuff for the old games.

Ugh I can't wait

Well technically I can because I have such a huge backlog, but I'm nevertheless excited
I like Ace Attorney but I'm wayyy behind. I'm on like the second case of the second game.
