What a foolish thing to say. Sounds like Jack Black was blindsided by it. Imagine tanking your own career and dragging all of the support for Tenacious D down with you because you want to be a smarmy edgelord.

Jack Black will be fine but there's backup musicians and techs and roadies and managers and merch people etc etc who are all gonna lose money because of Kyle's stupidity

I love how people can't take jokes anymore. That sounds exactly like some stupid joke every 14 yo would make. If you know someone said something as a joke, and you still get offended that's on you.

I guess tenacious D is a legacy act these days, but bands and artists say shit like this all the time, i guess they really have made it big time if they cant get a take like that off anymore

I love how people can't accept accountability anymore. That sounds exactly like some stupid remark that would've got somebody into trouble at any point throughout history, so celebs usually had enough sense to not make it. The few stupid enough to do it almost always got in trouble. That was true ten years, twenty years ago, thirty years ago, forty, fifty, a hundred, two hundred, etc.

And your defense that everybody should act like 14 year-olds (when even most 14 year-olds wouldn't do that, other than edgelords) makes the argument even more ridiculous. When a 14 y/o nobody makes a joke, they don't have much to risk. However, if that edgelord has a large following on YT or Twitch and could potentially be demonetized, that's the kind of consideration that should cross their mind before they make a remark that could get them demonetized.

Yeah, those poor decisions impact a lot of other people.
Everybody's got a price / Everybody's got to pay / Because the Million Drachma Man / Always gets his way. AhahahahMMH
People on Twitter saying that Jack shouldn't have said anything and people would forget it all in a week.
Which is true. Remember Kathy Griffin? I sure don't.
What would Bligh do?
Get cancelled lol, free speech doesn't mean freedom from consequences right??????

I think this might be the issue here, jack black is definitely a celebrity now but kyle is probably still in his mind a dude in a rock band

Wow I wasn't aware of Jack Black's history. He formed the band with that guy in 1994 then over the years he got bigger and bigger roles in movies until he eventually became a legit celebrity

Is it though? People on the left have been saying for about 8 years that Trump is "basically Hitler". If he's "basically Hitler", then what's the position on shooting Hitler? People are apparently against that now? At least when it comes to not getting themselves cancelled. Or maybe Trump was never "basically Hitler"?

I'm not advocating for shooting someone. I'm advocating for consistency. Don't say someone is "basically Hitler", then act outraged that someone would try to assassinate "basically Hitler". Either own up to that level of disdain for the man, or don't express that level of disdain.

^I don't think the groups are made of the same people in those examples. IMO it shows that for a lot of people, politics is less about the actual issues and more about "my team vs. your team". And honestly that justifies fandom's banning of political discussion, because that mentality has taken over society in general and is even worse on the internet.

While I think it was foolish of Kyle to do, he's apologized. I would never say something like he did, but I think it'd only be fair to shit on him if he was unapologetic about it. The whole thing really sucks.

Based on most of the YouTube thumbnails I've seen for this I've assumed it was Jack Black that said the dumb thing.

Kind of less of a story if it was just Kyle.

Unfortunately, the usual Internet response to apologies is "Fuck off, eat shit." So it probably won't help much.

Though it's not helped by the fact that most celebrity apologies come across as incredibly disingenuous. It's often less "I'm sorry for what I did " and more "I'm sorry I got caught", "I'm sorry that my actions have consequences", and "My PR team is forcing me to do this.". It's not contrition, it's spin control.

You seem to be having some pretty severe misunderstandings of what is happening. Given you're supporting Trump I can't say I'm surprised.

I absolutely don't support Trump, so it seems like you're the one with pretty severe misunderstandings of what is happening.

What I do support is consistency, and I think a lot of people on the left are deeply inconsistent and presently eating their own to avoid cancelling themselves.

What I do support is consistency, and I think a lot of people on the left are deeply inconsistent and presently eating their own to avoid cancelling themselves, when in privacy of their homes, they are lamenting that shit sure would have been easier for them come November.

But Kyle Gass expresses something along those lines, and everyone falls over over themselves.

Everyone? Jack Black did what he had to do to protect himself.

As for anyone else you want them to get banned or whatever?

Lt. Gov. Mark Robinsons who said some people need to be murdered got invited to give a speech at the RNC.

You're a hypocrite. "Liberals" don't get support when they do fucked up shit. Conservatives do. It's consistent. Liberals who do fucked up shit always get shut down. Conservatives always get support for fucked up shit. ITS CONSISTENT!

Right, because he'll be cancelled by people that agree privately, but won't air it publicly.

Same as above.

Because the Republican platform has become a platform that rewards hate. Trump helped really push that. But of course, we're all nice on the left, and certainly want to make sure he's nice and healthy so he can keep pushing that. At least, that's what we apparently tell each other to express, lest we get cancelled.

Who is shutting down the liberals? The conservatives? Or other liberals?

I get your point. The thing is, Hitler was killed in a different way than an assassination during a speech. I don't like encouraging violence against Trump because I think the Republicans are radical enough for that to simply bolster them. If we were literally at war, then it's a bit more fair game. If someone randomly offed Hitler during a speech in '41, I doubt it would've stopped the Nazis in their tracks. But I get your point that people aren't consistent and are very slapdash with their language. Trump has the potential to be an authoritarian and he has authoritarian tendencies. A straight comparison to Hitler doesn't really help anyone.

Yes, Hitler killed himself. And at the point that he killed himself, he had entire societies trying to kill him.

Oh yeah, I don't think it would have helped much, outside of disallowing him to take the oath of office again. Which I imagine was probably the goal for dude climbing onto the roof.

Edit: In regards to the Republicans being bolstered by it, yes. There is no scenario you could have had last week in which the Democrats wouldn't be blamed for it.
