Because film producers realized that there's a big market for low-quality horror movies. It's the go-to genre for making a quick buck by churning out something bad and slapping a recognizable brand on it.They are cheap to make with "what you don't see is scarier mentality"
There's lots of shitty everything. But part of why there's so much shitty horror is because it's the cheap and easy genre to produce. It usually takes more effort to make people think or laugh than to jump because you shouted BOO loudly.
Halloween is boomer horrorThis might be the worst take I've even seen from you. Halloween is so great, from the suspense, camera work, music, story, characters, etc. Excessive gore, jump scares and cheesy dialogue and effects don't make a horror movie good.
The way people jump to so vehemently defend those pieces of junk baffles me.
"In MY day we didnt need our slasher flicks to be scary or gory. We watched a first person perspective shot with shoe horned suspense music for no reason and we LIKED IT"
Schmen and I are doing our annual horror marathon, and I had a better time with the Child's Play series than I am with the Halloween series. The first 3 Child's Plays were at least comically bad. Halloween isn't even comically bad, its just bad.

Most sequels of any kind rarely are better than the first. There are a handful of exceptions. That's what i was thinking. Most sequels suck.
