The only good ones imo are Halloween 2, 4 and 5 and the Friday the 13th movies up until the fake Jason , I think that's the 4th, but besides that even those franchises have garbage like H20 and Jason goes to Hell. Most are just part of a shitty franchise in general but almost all the great horror movies have exclusively terrible sequels.

Aren't they supposed to be terrible?

Because film producers realized that there's a big market for low-quality horror movies. It's the go-to genre for making a quick buck by churning out something bad and slapping a recognizable brand on it.
And with that... pow! I'm gone!
Most sequels of any kind rarely are better than the first. There are a handful of exceptions.

one such that is is one of the most famous movies of all time alien -> aliens but then true to form the sequels after aliens sucked donkey balls

Halloween 3 might be a shitty sequel but it's still underrated as hell imo.

Halloween is boomer horror
The way people jump to so vehemently defend those pieces of junk baffles me.

"In MY day we didnt need our slasher flicks to be scary or gory. We watched a first person perspective shot with shoe horned suspense music for no reason and we LIKED IT"

Schmen and I are doing our annual horror marathon, and I had a better time with the Child's Play series than I am with the Halloween series. The first 3 Child's Plays were at least comically bad. Halloween isn't even comically bad, its just bad.

They are cheap to make with "what you don't see is scarier mentality"
Starfield is a 7/10. Get over it.
There's lots of shitty everything. But part of why there's so much shitty horror is because it's the cheap and easy genre to produce. It usually takes more effort to make people think or laugh than to jump because you shouted BOO loudly.

Good gore is an art, and takes a fair amount of effort and creativity.

But yes, jumpscare horror is cringe, and you can thank garbage like paranormal activity or the conjuring for its modern prevalence.

This might be the worst take I've even seen from you. Halloween is so great, from the suspense, camera work, music, story, characters, etc. Excessive gore, jump scares and cheesy dialogue and effects don't make a horror movie good.

There are very very few movies I would classify as "good" horror movies.

Enjoyable is another matter entirely. A movie doesn't have to be good to be enjoyable.

Halloween is neither. Boring characters boring atmosphere, boring plot, no gore effects whatsoever. It's just a bad movie. You can't even respect it for creating the genre, because Psycho already did that.

But what do I know. I have only been watching 100 horror movies every October for the past 2 decades.

That's what i was thinking. Most sequels suck.
There's also T2 which is regarded as better than the original, or easier to watch these days.

The last well executed and original idea in a horror movie was probably It Follows, and that is damn near a decade old.

For many horror franchises, the best film wasn't the first one... or, in other cases, it offers something different.

But, in general, most things with sequels get criticisms for those sequels, with the exception of fantasy/scifi adaptations where the story is told across several films.
