Im only 32 but feel like I had less options when I grew up (cost/availability) which caused me to have more repeats and develop favorites and emotional attachments to specific media and I guess it felt like there was more uniqueness to individual things because there were less overall things within my attention. Now discovery is so easy and everyone into a media-based hobby has a constant stream of good quality stuff coming their way through some type of online discovery system.

Im just getting old

It's overwhelming honestly. I have access to so much media that deciding what to consume can be a chore. Doubly so when I factor in picking something to watch with my wife, who likes a narrower selection of content than I do.

Tulips on your organ.
I miss when the internet was a place of curiosity and exploration. These days its just conglomerates doing everything in their power to target your wallet.

Thats definitely a thing I miss. It feels like pretty much all amateur content is trying to make it a side hustle instead of just something being done for enjoyment.

My girlfriend is addicted to Tik Tok. Shes my age but shell literally scroll through it for hours on end every day. I could definitely see kids just being less hobby oriented these days.
its kind of crazy to see, I work at a pizza place and around half the staff are in the zoomer generation. they're all 100% glued to their phones and it seems like every few days there's a new fad going on.
i had to get away from the smart phone world a few years ago, it sucks on one hand because since i have just a dumb flip phone, i miss out on a lot since tons of people even in my age group (mid-late 20s) only talk via snap chat, so my peers kinda scoff at me if i tell them i just use a flip phone...but it's nice because i think that i'm kind of immune from the onslaught of the internet. it's kind of lonely, but i suppose i chose that.
sometimes i post a lot to compensate for not having friends...sorry in advance (or sorry after the fact if you read my signature after reading my post)
wonder what they would all do if a solar storm wiped out all electrical equipment

with how dependent everyone is on nowadays
Having a goal is good, but don't let your goal depress you. Goals are meant to inspire.

People have been dependent on electricity for decades
In the long run we are all dead
children aren't necessarily deranged if you actually speak with them and ask them about their interests. There was a young teen in front of me at the local used video game store - he was buying a GameCube and Animal Crossing. I had to say 'hey, I was your age when I played that game. it's so awesome, you're going to really enjoy it'. He told me 'it's cheaper than buying a Switch!'. I never thought of it that way - smart kid.
