My ex housemate would constantly bitch about how in debt he was but eat out twice a day via DoorDash, and when I told him he could cook it at the very least drive to pick it up, he looked at me like I was insane and told me to stay in my lane.

he was spending his gfs money on food and rent and used his cash for DND shit he never used, and massive history textbooks for the YouTube channel he was totally gonna make soon

Doordash is the worst possible thing that could happen to your financials and I recommend never even trying it, you can definitely get hooked on the convenience and immediate gratification like an addiction

This is from experience, but I'm not on that guy's level of irresponsible, the money I wasted was mine

If your friend wants to buy a solid gold toilet, that's his business.

(It's really only your business if he's asking you for loans, and even then just a simple "I don't feel comfortable loaning you money because of your exorbitant spending habits" is more than enough of a justified response)

It depends. If you can pay your bills and aren't making your irresponsible spending other people's problem, then sure, how you spend your money isn't my business. If you are constantly late on the rent, always asking for loans or for friends/family to cover you, complaining about how you have no money, etc, then you're making it my business.
Thus I became a madman.

It's still not really your business unless you're the one they're asking for money. Or if you're their landlord.

And even if you are the one they're asking, your business kind of ends at the point where you tell them no. It's still not really your concern who else they might be asking.

My boomer parents are remortgaging the house, they want to travel the world and retire early. They've told me I shouldn't expect an inheritance and I should make my own way in the world.

Thing is they inherited the house from my grandma, kinda miffed. They better not hit me up asking for a place to stay once the money runs out. I'm thinking a nice tent in Cali, far away from me.

When I was younger, I was much more outspoken about it. Nowadays though, it is more of a "If you ask me for advice, I will give it. If you don't, then I am keeping my mouth shut." With an additional addendum of "Don't ask me for money if you have no intention of paying it back. I will not hesitate to make your life a living hell over a few bucks."
