fzero 99 is actually great. the others (outside of maybe tetris) felt like hacks but fzero 99 is fuckin legit

i object to the tag of 'battle royale' being slapped on it (the lowest you'll get is top 40 on a grand prix, also battle royale implies it sucks) but hey, whatever sells sells

I don't understand how F-Zero has yet to get a new console entry after F-Zero GX. GX was fucking amazing, has a pretty strong following, and a series revival could be hyped to hell and back with modern system capabilities.

Shit, I'd settle for a GX/AX HD remaster (although the prospect of having to clear Chapter 7 Very Hard a second time fills my heart with dread). I dumped so many hours into that game.

I've liked all of these, but dislike that they dropped Mario 35 off the store. It's too good to take away.

Gonna try F-ZERO in a sec. I hope this is a sign that they'll pump a tiny bit of life into the series. I know it wouldn't be a new game, but even re-releasing GX would satiate most.

I've longed to see anything for F-Zero so I'm excited to see the battle royale game. I hope it does well and sparks new interest in the franchise.

My understanding is that it's mostly because they don't know how to improve on GX and they don't want to continue the series just for the sake of continuing the series. A remake is long overdue, but I can kind of respect the attitude of "we're not making a sequel unless we have a good idea for one" in an industry where it's so common to keep pumping out sequels until the brand's value has been completely drained.

Well, Mario Kart kind of fits that but they'll always make new Mario Kart games. I wish they'd just realize designing new tracks is definitely worth a new game! GX was indeed pretty much perfect. A remake really needs to come.

They will indeed keep making Mario Kart (though I'm pretty comfortable calling 8 the series' best and I'm not surprised they've just kept the DLC flowing for it instead of making a whole new game), but Mario Kart's lead devs wanting to keep trying different things doesn't necessarily mean F-Zero's also should. The sentiment seems to be that they don't want to make a sequel so long as they know it won't be as good as GX, which I can understand because that is pretty demotivating.
