I don't believe anything was ever said about the androids costing anything. For all we know, they could've been given out as some kind of a welfare program.Kara is supposed to be one of the more affordable models. She cost about $900. Not cheap but not prohibitively expensive either, and I'm sure they would have payment plans for these things.
