IIRC dehydration isn't the main cause of hangovers. It has to do with inflammation. Supposedly taking an Ibuprofen before going to sleep helps prevent or mitigate a hangover.

You are both right, and wrong. There are more than 20 factors in an alcohol related "hangover."

Dehydration is one of them. Damage of stomach lining is one of them. Accute alcohol withdrawal is one of them. Impurities in alcohol is one of them. Your liver being overloaded with more alcohol than it can process is one of them (and the resulting byproduct of the liver's filtration.) There's more, also.
