Metroid 2 on 3DS has content locked behind Amiibos

The only thing that seems like a big loss is the hard mode. And if the hard mode is just the same game with more and/or deadlier enemies, I'd probably ignore it anyway, assuming the normal mode is decently challenging. But if the hard mode has unique bosses and/or a slightly different story (if the hard mode has Samus wearing her fusion suit, does that mean she's returning to SR388 some time after Metroid: Fusion?), that would be bad to require an Amiibo to unlock. What if you can't find the Amiibo in your area? If you could download the hard mode from the E-Shop, at least then you'd be almost guaranteed to be able to get it.
