To be fair, prostitution really shouldn't be a crime. What two consenting adults do behind closed doors for money so long as they don't record it and put it on the internet should not be a crime.
That is correct except minors cannot consent. Additionally, you cannot give consent when the person holds a position of power or authority over you, such as a cop over a prostitute they might arrest.
So yeah, this was definitely criminal.
On a side note, I would imagine all the money is gone within a matter of years, at most.
