Eeeeh, its no more of a waste than any other form of service-based entertainment. Whether or not the level of enjoyment justifies the expense just depends on the person.
Fair enough, but not all paid services are created equally. I can't find a girl I like normally then suddenly have an Xbox Live subscription.
